Dennis laid down the challenge….winner of the Barra Classic wins a night out in Kunnanara. As usual with Stephanie and Dennis the rules were complicated – 20 points for catching the most fish, 20 points for catching the most barramundi and 30 points for catching the biggest barramundi.
The biggest barra ended up being the first fish out of the water – a 69cm bruiser caught by yours truly. It was an exhilarating fight to get him in the boat (I know it was a he because all barramundi under 80cm are male, when they get bigger they turn into females – go figure?!). Dennis caught the most fish by a long way and kept catching little guys all day as well as scoring a 56cm barra (and, of course, the HUGE one that “got away”). But I caught another big barra (66cm) and then another small one for most Barra caught. Winner! Even the crocodiles were cheering.
Obviously, we are both back from our separate side-trips and now recovering from jetlag at Woolianna, a fisherman’s campground on the edge of the Daly River. The Territory is as we left it….hot, humid and full of insects. More blogging to come (including a chapter on how we hit the “Grey Army” at last) – but wanted to get news of my big win on the wires right away.
And now from the crocodile man (but beware tales of large fish that got away)......
Congratulations Stephanie an outstanding performance, looks like dinner on me in Kunnunara. Now we are off to the West again for more adventure.
