We Hit The Road

We are currently sitting under the awning of our camp trailer gazing out over a perfect sunset glinting off the pelicans and ducks gliding across the Myall Lakes. We only arrived here a couple of hours ago, but already feel it's a magic place. We are set up by the perfectly still lake, and yet can hear the crashing of the waves on the seemingly never-ending beach about 100m away.

Now, before anyone gets the idea that it's been nothing but perfect vistas and magic sunsets let me set you straight. We've had some rain - enough to get inside the camper and soak our lovely Queen size bed. Dennis has been sick, first with a cold and then with a nasty chest infection. On antibiotics now and claims to be 8 out of 10. And we have fought like cats and dogs! This too seems to be on the improve, but having two people in such close quarters who both want to be the boss has been exhausting for both of us!

We left Melbourne on Friday afternoon after the (very well built) movers came and packed away all our furniture into a container. We headed straight up the Hume and spent a very unromantic night in Holbrook being lulled to sleep by the sound of the trucks screaming past on the highway. We had intended to spend two nights in Sydney, but ended up staying four. We were both exhausted, Dennis was sick and I think we knew we'd kill each other if we had to pack up too soon. We spent our time catching up with friends and saying more goodbyes - and having a few decent coffees while the opportunity remained.

So now we're finally really on the road. I think it will still be awhile before we find a rhythm and figure out what this life is really going to be all about. Dennis was asked his occupation when he went to the doctor's and he said "explorer". So I guess we're still learning exactly what's involved in being a good explorer....but I suppose that's all part of the rich tapestry of this trip.

Sorry no pictures with this post. I seem to have left my card reader somewhere - who knows, could be somewhere in the truck - so can't upload the pictures yet. Will put in extra on the next post.
