A Gorge Too Far!

Carnarvon Gorge - the place where we finally decided we are gorged out.  It's supposed to be one of the most beautiful gorges in Queensland, but we have felt pretty ho hum about the place from the moment we arrived.  Our attitude cannot be entirely blamed on the place - the incessant drizzle, the fact that it's school holidays and everywhere is teaming with small people with far too much energy have certainly played their part in our inability to appropriately appreciate the grandeur of the place.

Now, after 12 months of ducking and weaving to avoid bad weather and road closures, Carnarvon Gorge has dealt us the final insult.  After torrential rain most of the night, we got up this morning, packed up our very wet tent and prepared to go.....only to be informed that we are trapped here for at least the next 24 hours as the road out is closed due to flooding.  It could be worse:  we have power, there are showers, we have enough food to last another 4 days and there is still plenty of gin left in the bottle.  But on the down side, Dennis is running low on beer and so far even Radio Australia doesn't seem to be calling the AFL Grand Final.

A full report on the Queensland Outback will follow as soon as we make our escape.  But I thought you'd all want to receive this breaking news.  (Mum, don't worry, we will definately be in Brisbane by the time your plane lands!)
