A week by the sea

Having left Tamworth with not much in the way of Country Music to speak of I did listen to a couple of songs on the radio and liked this line. "last night I gave up, smoking, women and drinking, it was the worst 15 minutes of my life". So we headed for Coffs Harbour staying at the very nice Sawtell (Sunny) beachside caravan park for a week and had a very social time with Mark and Emma, Anna and Neil (live in the Promised Land) and Mike and Greg (Stephanie will no doubt describe most of this adventure so I will only mention Mike and Greg. The guys drove down from the Gold Coast for a game of Golf at Bonville, great weather and well done Mike (sorry no photo's from the presentation area), we had a good game and it was good to see them both again, thanks for making the trip down guys, Mike asked me what I had found so far on the trip that I had not expected "have not missed television at all" which is surprising as I watched quite a lot of sport at home. The time in Coffs was relaxing and we commenced walking each morning on the beach.

Speaking of the beach we had our first taste of driving on sand and I must admit that this was well outside my comfort zone and quite scary, i think that i will get used to this with some more excursions though. Decided on running the clippers straight over the head and have a new look. At Sawtell we came across a group of Ex Army National Service guys from the 10th intake celebrating 40 years after getting out, the majority were Vietnam Veterans I joined them at Happy hour and they saw me as a novelty given I was in the 25th Intake in 1970, it was fun to swap stories and to have some things in common, one of the cars that i saw on the way out had a number plate "10 int" if shows what effect the Army has on some people and i am sure on me. Stephanie is well and we are enjoying the experience, it is quite different to our normal lives as we spend most of the time together with the exception of when i play golf or she goes on a trek. We survive on 130 lts of water for 4 days, its amazing how much water you don't need to have a bird bath, chopping wood is another task that i have not done for many years, it takes time in enery I have discovered. We have taken up bird watching and bought a book to identify them, its interesting and something that we both seem to enjoy. Every morning we wake to the sounds of birds so the book helps with understanding them a little. Played Golf at Gunnadah on the way through, must be the cheapest place to play $13.20 including the comp fee for the day, did not play well and met some of the locals, enjoyed it.

Enough for now Stephanie will no doubt have something else to add here.

I have just read your blog for the first time. Very polished. The weather will determine your state of mind and having experienced it all, my recommendation is go north, follow the sun. You are going to learn that a year in a camper with only the 2 of you is a long time. Anyway enjoying your updates, keep on camping.
